Free Evacuation Go-Bags Available to Montecito Community Members
October 21, 2026
MONTECITO, CA – The Montecito Fire Department is assisting community members with preparing for emergencies by providing complimentary evacuation “go-bags.”
Building on ongoing efforts to help residents with emergency preparedness, Montecito Fire carefully selected a sturdy and functional bag that is prepacked with basic emergency supplies to help people sustain the initial period following an evacuation event.
The bags contain:
- 2,400 calorie emergency food bar
- 12-hour glow stick
- Emergency whistle
- Heavy-duty work gloves
- Safety goggles
- N95 mask
- Emergency survival blanket
- Waterproof poncho
- Pocket tissue pack
- Cleansing towelettes
- Biohazard waste bags
- Basic first aid kit
- Nylon rope
- Duct tape
The go-bag is intended as a starting point. Residents should supplement it with essential items specific to their household. Additional items may include clothing, footwear, medications, personal electronics, chargers, copies of important documents, pet supplies, water and any extra emergency supplies the resident may need.
“It can be challenging to know where to begin when building an evacuation bag, so we wanted to take the first step for our community by providing the bag, some basic supplies and guidance on how to finish packing it,” Fire Chief Brian Fallon said. “Our hope is that having these bags ready to go will expedite future evacuations, helping our residents get to safety while our firefighters respond to the incident.”
Go-bags are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Proof of residency is required, and one bag per household will be provided. Bags may be requested through the Montecito Fire Department’s website. Bags may be picked up at Fire Station 91, located at 595 San Ysidro Road.
