Red Flag Warning in effect for mountains above Montecito July 15 - 16, 2026

RED FLAG WARNING

Location: Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast and Eastern Santa Ynez Range - this includes the mountains above Montecito

Timing: 12 PM Wednesday, July 15 - 9 AM Thursday, July 16

Conditions: Hot temperatures, low humidities, instability, locally breezy winds, and critically dry fuels will produce elevated fire weather conditions.

Under these conditions, fires will grow rapidly and behave erratically. Be ready to evacuate in the event of a vegetation fire.

High fire weather risk in Southern California with gusts up to 55 mph and 10-40% chance of thunderstorms. Stay alert!

PREPARE NOW

  • High winds may cause power outages. Check sce.com for outage & Public Safety Power Shutoff information.
  • Keep phones and important electronics charged.
  • If you park your car inside a garage, ensure you can manually open the garage door (if power is off) OR park outside.
  • Consider your evacuation routes - know 2 ways out!
  • Hot Springs Trail is closed and parking in the area is prohibited during Red Flag Warning.
  • Reconsider recreating on trails. During high winds, aircraft may not be able to fly, whether to hoist out an injured hiker or drop water on a wildfire. Emergency incidents on trails may deplete resources for rescue operations.
