ORIGINAL POST: July 29, 2025 - 9:40 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tsunami Advisory for the California Coast, including the Santa Barbara South Coast, following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake off the coast of Russia.

The expected arrival time of the tsunami wave in our area is approximately 12:50 a.m. on July 30, 2025. High tide will occur at 1-1:25 a.m.

High tide is 4 feet, and surge could increase wave heights by about 1-1.5 feet. The waves may create some additional heights, rip currents, and strong tidal shifts.

No evacuations are necessary.

All of Santa Barbara County is expected to remain under an advisory.

Please avoid beaches and waterways. This threat may continue for several hours after the initial wave.
