COASTAL AREAS BETWEEN AND INCLUDING SAN ONOFRE STATE BEACH CALIFORNIA /WHICH IS LOCATED 45 MILES SE OF L.A./ TO RAGGED POINT CALIFORNIA /WHICH IS LOCATED 50 MILES NW OF SAN LUIS OBISPO/ 841 AM PDT THU SEP 17 2015

...THE TSUNAMI ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE COASTAL AREAS OF CALIFORNIA FROM SAN ONOFRE STATE BEACH CALIFORNIA /WHICH IS LOCATED 45 MILES SE OF L.A./ TO RAGGED POINT CALIFORNIA /WHICH IS LOCATED 50 MILES NW OF SAN LUIS OBISPO/...

IF YOU ARE LOCATED IN THIS COASTAL AREA... MOVE OFF THE BEACH AND OUT OF HARBORS AND MARINAS.

TSUNAMI ADVISORIES MEAN THAT A TSUNAMI CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG CURRENTS OR WAVES DANGEROUS TO PERSONS IN OR VERY NEAR THE WATER IS EXPECTED OR IS ALREADY OCCURRING. AREAS IN THE ADVISORY SHOULD NOT EXPECT WIDESPREAD INUNDATION. TSUNAMIS ARE A SERIES OF WAVES DANGEROUS MANY HOURS AFTER INITIAL ARRIVAL TIME. THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.

AT 355 PM PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME ON SEPTEMBER 16 AN EARTHQUAKE WITH PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE 8.3 OCCURRED OFF THE COAST OF CENTRAL CHILE.

THE TSUNAMI ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. REFER TO THE INTERNET SITE NTWC.ARH.NOAA.GOV FOR MORE INFORMATION.

INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...SAN LUIS OBISPO...PISMO BEACH... MORRO BAY...CAMBRIA...SAN SIMEON...SANTA MARIA...LOMPOC...VANDENBERG...SANTABARBARA...MONTECITO...CARPINTERIA...VENTURA...OXNARD...CAMARILLO...MALIBU...SANTA MONICA...BEVERLY HILLS... HOLLYWOOD...LONG BEACH...AVALON AUTHORITIES.

* UPDATES...THE TSUNAMI WAVES HAVE BEEN OBSERVED ON TIDE GAUGE OBSERVATIONS UP AND DOWN THE COAST...INDICATING WATER LEVEL CHANGES OF AROUND A FOOT SO FAR. THE MAXIMUM WATER LEVEL CHANGE WAS AT VENTURA HARBOR WHERE THE GAUGE OBSERVED A CHANGE OF AROUND 13 INCHES. SANTA BARBARA REPORTED A CHANGE OF 8.5 INCHES...SANTA MONICA 8 INCHES AND PORT SAN LUIS 7.5 INCHES.

WATER SURGES HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTED IN VENTURA HARBOR. THESE CHANGES IN WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 6 TO 8 HOURS.

* LOCAL IMPACTS... A TSUNAMI CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG CURRENTS THAT MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO SWIMMERS...BOATS...AND COASTAL STRUCTURES IS EXPECTED. AREAS WITHIN THE ADVISORY SHOULD NOT EXPECT WIDESPREAD INUNDATION. HOWEVER...THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR STRONG CURRENTS IN HARBORS AND MARINAS.

* EARTHQUAKE PARAMETERS...AT 355 PM PDT ON SEPTEMBER 16 2015...AN EARTHQUAKE WITH PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 8.3 OCCURRED OFF THE COAST OF CENTRAL CHILE.

SANTA BARBARA...LOW TIDE OF 1.3 FEET AT 704 PM PDT ON SEP 17. HIGH TIDE OF 4.9 FEET AT 1222 PM PDT ON SEP 17.

SANTA MONICA...LOW TIDE OF 1.3 FEET AT 637 PM PDT ON SEP 17. HIGH TIDE OF 4.9 FEET AT 1152 AM PDT ON SEP 17.

LOS ANGELES HARBOR...LOW TIDE OF 1.3 FEET AT 633 PM PDT ON SEP 17. HIGH TIDE OF 5.0 FEET AT 1148 AM PDT ON SEP 17.
