Jeff Saley joined the Montecito Fire Protection District in January of 2007.
Recently completing 38 years with the U.S. Forest Service, all on the Los Padres National Forest, Jeff has extensive wildland fire experience and has focused on safety management on national and local wildland fires and prescribed burns.
Jeff has worked on fire suppression Hand Crews, Helicopters and Engines as well as prevention and law enforcement with the Forest Service.
In addition to his fire experience, for the past 15 years, he has Developed and Managed Community based programs in counties adjacent to the Los Padres National Forest. This experience has enabled him to effectively educate, organize and work with neighborhoods in the Montecito Fire Protection District to maintain and improve survivable space on and adjacent to private properties.
Jeff still remains active in helping to manage wildland fires and other natural disasters. He is the Safety Officer on California Incident Management Team 7 and is often sought to help other Incident Management Teams in the U.S.
Local background: Jeff came to Santa Barbara in 1962. He graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology.
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army as a drill instructor, tank commander, armored personnel carrier instructor and completed a tour of service in Korea.
