Wildland fires have always been a part of Montecito's natural environment. Due to development in the wild land environment, properties have taken on more of a risk.

We know that there are never enough fire apparatus and equipment to respond to every house.

Areas of Montecito will burn again. This is not maybe. This is a GIVEN.

We have also learned that you may be given little to no warning that you need to evacuate.

FIVE notable fires that have burned in the Montecito area:

Coyote 1964
Romero 1971
Sycamore 1977
Tea 2008
Jesusita 2009

Over 686 Structures have been destroyed.
