Trail Rescue, Romero Canyon Trail

March 18, 2016, 4:57 PM - The Montecito Fire Protection District responded to an injured bicyclist reported 100 feet down from the Romero Canyon Trail, approximately 1.5 miles from the top of E. Camino Cielo, and 4.5 miles from the Romero Canyon Trailhead. Additional responding resources included personnel from Santa Barbara County Sheriff Search and Rescue, Santa Barbara County Fire, a Santa Barbara County Helicopter, and an ambulance from American Medical Response. 

Due to the reported location of the patient, Montecito Firefighters and Paramedics responded from the Romero trailhead located on Bella Vista Drive, Santa Barbara County Fire and Search and Rescue Personnel hiked down from the top of E. Camino Cielo, while the heliicopter searched overhead. 

A Good Samaritan who discovered the patient stayed near him and was pivotal in assisting rescue personnel in quckly locating the patient.  The helicopter located the patient approximately 4.5 miles from the Romero Trailhead, 1.5 miles northeast of where the Blue Canyon Connector leaves the Romero Canyon Trail.  The helicopter lowered rescue personnel to the patient, where he was treated and packaged for transport by helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
