A TSUNAMI ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT WHICH INCLUDES THE COASTAL AREAS OF CALIFORNIA FROM SAN ONOFRE STATE BEACH CALIFORNIA /WHICH IS LOCATED 45 MILES SE OF L.A./ TO RAGGED POINT CALIFORNIA /WHICH IS LOCATED 50 MILES NW OF SAN LUIS OBISPO/...

IF YOU ARE LOCATED IN THIS COASTAL AREA... MOVE OFF THE BEACH AND OUT OF HARBORS AND MARINAS.

TSUNAMI ADVISORIES MEAN THAT A TSUNAMI CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG CURRENTS OR WAVES DANGEROUS TO PERSONS IN OR VERY NEAR WATER IS EXPECTED OR IS ALREADY OCCURRING. AREAS IN THE ADVISORY SHOULD NOT EXPECT WIDESPREAD INUNDATION. TSUNAMIS ARE A SERIES OF WAVES DANGEROUS MANY HOURS AFTER INITIAL ARRIVAL TIME. THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.

AT 355 PM PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME ON SEPTEMBER 16 AN EARTHQUAKE WITH

PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE 8.3 OCCURRED OFF THE COAST OF CENTRAL CHILE.

ESTIMATED TSUNAMI START TIMES FOR SELECTED SITES ARE... NEWPORT BEACH CALIFORNIA 446 AM. PDT. SEPTEMBER 17. LOS ANGELES HARBOR CALIFORNIA 447 AM. PDT. SEPTEMBER 17. SANTA BARBARA CALIFORNIA 506 AM. PDT. SEPTEMBER 17. PORT SAN LUIS CALIFORNIA 510 AM. PDT. SEPTEMBER 17.

THE TSUNAMI ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
