Chief Wallace began his career in the fire service in 1981, when he served one season as a Santa Barbara County Hot Shot. He was then hired as an engineer with the Western Hills Fire Protection District in Greeley, Colorado before coming to the Montecito Fire Protection District in 1983. He promoted to Captain in 1988, and Battalion Chief in 1996, Division Chief in 2001, and October 1st, 2006 Kevin Wallace was promoted to Fire Chief.

Chief Wallace is a state certified Hazardous Materials Specialist and was on the South Coast Hazmat Team for 12 years. He is also a state certified Chief Officer. He graduated with a Biology major from the University of California Riverside in 1979, and has an additional 100 semester units in fire science.

Chief Wallace was an Operations Section Chief with a type 2 interagency incident management team from the Los Padres National Forest for six years. He is currently the President on the Board of Directors for the Fire Districts Association of California.
